Beads

Several beads were recovered during the sieving operations at Stainton West. It seems quite likely that two stone beads, one effectively a perforated pebble and a second stone bead, apparently much more finely manufactured and forming a small perforated cylinder in a highly crystalline pink stone, may be Mesolithic in date.

Additionly, two small and irregular glass annular beads in brownish-yellow and greenish glass are long-lived types, originating in the late Iron Age (first century BC), but persisting throughout the Roman period and beyond, into the sixth century.
